2nd Fridays

flyerWhat becomes possible when a community collectively allows itself to embody the experiences of sound in all its forms? Words, music, silence. What is the experience of a group listening together? Which notes will some pick up that others won’t? As our world continues to be confronted with pain, violence and uncertainty, where are the places of refuge to mourn, find rejuvenation and connect? Is it the consulting room? The jazz club? John Coltrane said, “All a musician can do is get closer to the source.” The hope of this second Friday is to gather in space to bear witness, listen, feel and participate in dialogue with locally and internationally acclaimed jazz musicians—drummer Sylvia Cuenca, pianist David Ewell, and bassist Joe Warner—and improvisational discussion with Danny Yu and Cria Merchant. What becomes possible when we allow ourselves to take risks, drop in together and, as John Coltrane said, …”get closer to the source.”
