Second Fridays – May
The Surreal World Is Now: Losing Oneself/Finding the Ineffable
Andrew Lyndon, Discussant Reyna Cowan PsyD, LCSW
Friday May 9, 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM
2nd Fridays
During the process of making a painting or an animated film, images emerge though meaning initially remains elusive. What is this world? Where am I and how do I even begin to locate myself? Through reverie, trial, error, and play that which is unorganized comes into focus, dissolves again and then slowly reemerges into something that has form, structure and meaning. This description sounds like a psychoanalytic process but it is actually the unfolding of an art practice. Like in psychoanalysis, that which is unknown develops coherence and meaning over time. Join us for this 2nd Friday where artist Andrew Lyndon will share his paintings, his animated films and most importantly, his process. By listening first to the world of the painting (or animation) and its rules, he can then upend and disrupt, thereby creating new avenues for meaning making. Andrew and Reyna will be in dialogue about making and will be making a dialogue. Join us for this unique exploration of art, form and formlessness.
